Alleged Firearm Threat Against a Journalist at Arcamanik Police Station, Bandung

On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m. (WIB), an alleged firearm intimidation incident occurred involving a journalist from Jurnal Polisi Pers (JP), who is also a member of the West Java Regional Police Journalists Working Group (Pokja Wartawan Polda Jawa Barat).
According to the victim's statement, the incident took place inside the Arcamanik Police Station in Bandung. The alleged suspect, identified as Viktor Wongsonegoro, reportedly a member of a community organization in Bandung and currently residing in the Permata Bumi Arcamanik Residential Complex, allegedly pointed what was believed to be a firearm at the journalist from an estimated distance of approximately two meters.
The victim stated that he escaped unharmed thanks to the prompt intervention of officers from the Arcamanik Police Station, who immediately separated the parties and secured the alleged suspect in another room within the police station.
According to the victim, after being restrained, the alleged suspect continued shouting and allegedly attempted to pursue him. The situation was subsequently brought under control by police officers. One officer reportedly commended the victim for remaining calm, refraining from retaliation, and avoiding any actions that could have escalated the confrontation. To maintain public order and prevent further tension, the victim was advised to leave the premises.
On Thursday, June 25, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m. (WIB), the victim filed an official police report with the Bandung Metropolitan Police (Polrestabes Bandung) regarding the alleged assault and firearm intimidation.
In response to the report, investigators from the Criminal Investigation Unit of Polrestabes Bandung proceeded to the Arcamanik Police Station to examine the scene and initiate further inquiries. However, upon their arrival at approximately 5:30 p.m. (WIB), a shift change had already taken place, and the officers who had been on duty and had directly witnessed the previous day's incident were no longer present. As a result, further interviews with police witnesses were scheduled for a later date.
The victim expressed hope that law enforcement authorities would conduct a thorough, professional, impartial, and transparent investigation in accordance with applicable Indonesian law.
Legal Note
Should the object involved be confirmed through forensic examination and investigation to constitute a firearm under Indonesian law, the case may be subject to the provisions of Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951. However, if the object is determined to be an air gun or another type of device, its legal classification will depend on the outcome of forensic analysis and the police investigation to determine whether it meets the legal definition of a firearm.
The determination of the applicable criminal charges remains the sole authority of investigators based on the findings of the official investigation and evidentiary process.
